Boat trailer hub bearings can be damaged when warm hubs are backed into cool water during launching. The rapid cooling contracts trapped air inside the hub, creating a vacuum that pulls water and road grit into the hub and contaminates grease, leading to corrosion and rapid wear.

This bearing protector corrects the issue by filling the hub with grease. Most trapped air is expelled through a pressure relief feature. After the hub is full, a spring-loaded piston applies slight pressure to the grease inside the hub so hub pressure is slightly higher than outside pressure, helping prevent water and grit from being drawn in.
